THIS WEEKEND WAS EYE-OPENING.
There are a lot of things broken in #FlintMichigan -- the government policies; the infrastructure; rows and rows of houses along the road -- but the will of the people remains strong.
So many people with genuine care for their neighbors' well-being, and a knowledge of those they count among their community.
I began the last weekend in April with the intent to find a way to serve others.
I wanted to learn more and try to understand how to combat the callousness shown by those in power in Flint toward the many affected in their community.
I wanted to support the efforts of three organizations to whom I feel connected: Black Millennials 4 Flint, The Black Swan Academy, and the National Urban League Young Professionals.
All weekend I worked side by side with great individuals whose strength and will are destined to overcome all the egregious missteps, shortcomings, and blatant neglect shown in the smaller neighboring town just north of Detroit. I'm referring to the PEOPLE of Flint, who are fully aware of how, and for what reasons poison began flowing from their faucets, and WILL hold those responsible accountable. In the meantime, they refuse to be shaken, and hold tight to each other in the face of it all.
I STAND WITH FLINT.
