THEY CAME IN WAVES.
An endless sea of Black excellence and bold allies enveloped the national mall Saturday.
The message harkened back to 1995: a demand for understanding and fair treatment disseminated amongst a throng of diverse humanity; and a reminder of the greatness that has come before us; and hope instilled for those yet to come.
The sense of urgency and bated contempt is what just may have set the 2015 reincarnation from the prior march. Borne of the rallying cry "Justice or Else!", there was an unmistakable truth apparent in Saturday's gathering -- "Or Else" is not an empty threat.
The level of impatience with the criminal justice system (and other forms of government that fall short of their promise to serve the people) has come to a head. There is no margin for error going forward. Simply put, we are sick and tired of being treated as less than...
THOUGH THE MESSAGE WAS ONE OF FOREWARNING, THERE WAS AN AIR OF PEACE, UNITY, AND CELEBRATION.
The crowd was full of all forms and factions; a bouquet celebrating -- and offering a safe haven for -- religion and ethnicity. The creative expression was like none other, and everyone definitely wore their Blackness in style.
